The second richest in the world (Warren Buffett) donates almost all his fortune to Gates foundation founded by the richest man in the world.
Tens of billions of dollars, for education and medicine, it is much more than federal fundings! Private Charities are changing the world!
All these reminded me about my be-loved homeland--China. Last summer, I watched a talk show on TV in China talking about whether there was upper-class society in China now. No matter there is or not upper-class society in China now, certainly ONE big thing is missing--The Rich don't Donate!
Several reasons I could think about:
1. In our culture, rich people don't want to be known.
2. Media aren't as enthusiastic on charity activity as chasing superstar's dating and dumping.
3. Charity money are well know not properly used.
4. Sometimes, donation is regarded as showing off or purly for commercial purpose in our culture.
"Gain from People and Use on People",

You have to like a fish, not only fish in a pan"
Revere Beach is acutally a stop of Blue subway Line in Boston, we didn't know whether it was a beach or just a name. IT turned out to be a beautiful beach!!! Sunset time at revere beach with tons of Brazil soccer fans! Sand, sea, ice-cream, nothing could beat those!

It's CBI/BMB/BMP retreat of UMass Amherst and Wocesther today. I was selected as one of 8 speakers from the two campus. A great honor comes with also big stress. My first time giving research talk in front of more than 100 people, all of them professors, researchers and graduates students who know the area.
"Magnetic nanoparticle induced heating for treatment of breast cancer" is a 100% eyeball attractor. My talk raised quite a lot questions, concerns and comments. I was told later that I did a good job, sturctures was clear, expressions was clear, timing was perfect. :) Wish I had a pic of the talk.

Boston is a fun city and it is close to Amherst, so actually I never really visited the city just because it is too close. After 3 years in US, I did the famous Boston freedom trail yesterday. It would have been much more fun if I had known more about independence war of this country, or if I cared more about it. Obviously, the freedom trail concentrated a lot of shops and vendors with big variety, which made me feel so familiar, just like home town. Tours guides dressed in 18 century costumes, amphibian tours cars passing streets, retired war boats... It was fun.
